第一次真正聽到The Verve的歌是 "Sonnet" , S改編這首歌彈Bass給我聽, 再跟我分享這首歌原版, 好喜歡這首歌, 中文翻譯成 "莎翁14行詩" , 愛情世界的語言如情詩, my lord! (歌詞請見下文)。在The Verve的歌詞當中才看見詩人對他們的影響，如2008年的最新的專輯的<Love is Nose>，倫敦的英國詩人William Blake（1757-1827):的經典短詩「And did those feet in ancient time」，他們反芻後在歌詞中寫成: Will those feet in modern times。 還可常看見他們像探險家或是哲學家, 反覆思索生命, 感覺, 傷痛....

我愛英搖, 結合人文,詩詞和哲理, 而且是結合很不吵的小提琴和鋼琴, 為撕吼的搖滾樂注入一息優雅溫柔的氣息....既浪漫又搖滾...rcok your mind!

在倫敦,每次我音響一放出的The Verve的音樂,我的英國室友來自North Ireland, Birmingham,Manchester的室友紛紛一起唱唱" Bitter Sweet Symphony", 這首歌是電影<危險性遊戲>的主題曲, 也是Nike的廣告插曲,也是The Verve的重要代表。連來自牙馬加的EMBA的室友都說: FanFan, you have a good taste on music! 跟我分享The Verve的朋友告訴我:當他拋棄最愛的音樂或是為了生活,不得不不為人生做些妥協時,他總會聽Sonnet來平覆心情, 開始我想轉換生情時我也聽The Verve...

每次我要寫我的最愛人事物時, 我總難以用言語或文字表達確切, 所以以下的文字我轉載自博客來的介紹, 與大家分享The Verve~
 
The Verve由鼓手Peter Salisbur、貝斯手Simon Jones、吉他手Nick McCabe和主唱Richard Ashcroft，於1989年出道成軍於英倫曼城Wigan的The Verve，是上個世紀末，英國堪稱最偉大的搖滾樂隊之一。

TheVerve在90年代，和當時的Oasis、Blur、Pulp、Suede…等樂團平起平坐，可說是Brit-pop潮流的先驅，對搖滾樂界影響盛鉅的頭號樂團，是每個搖滾樂迷音樂蒐藏的必備名單。

The Verve充滿迷幻色彩的Space rock，總是輕易地帶領所有聽者，進入至另一個想像空間、邁向另一個次元，而他們更擅長編織出迴旋縈繞的旋律，將歌曲書寫成一首首發人深省的搖滾詩篇。而他們的歌曲，更受到許多傑出藝人的喜愛，像是Limp Bizkit、Moby都在他們自己的作品中，將The Verve的經典之作重新把玩再製，而Ben Harper、Madonna、Kanye West、Justin Timberlake在現場表演時，也都鍾愛選用The Verve的作品。

1993的出道專輯《A Storm In Heaven》，充滿自由、饒富創造力，一推出就讓The Verve獲得各大樂評的全力讚賞。1995推出的《A Northern Soul》，更是被Q雜誌的讀者在三年之後，票選為史上最佳百大專輯之一。而Oasis裡的靈魂人物在Noel Gallagher更在Oasis的專輯裡創作出一首〈Cast No Shadow〉給The Verve獻上欣賞之情，而主唱Richard Ashcroft，也在第二張專輯裡，回贈一首同名歌曲〈A Northern Soul〉，表達英雄惜英雄的情誼。而就在第二張專輯發行之後，The Verve面臨第一次的解散，雖然這一次的拆夥只歷時短多短短的幾個月，卻讓原始團員吉他手Nick McCabe拒絕回團，於是樂團便找來Simon Tong代替，當任吉他手的角色。直到1997，吉他手Nick McCabe再次回歸，The Verve發行了，將他們從英國帶往全世界的第三張專輯《Urban Hymns》。這張全球銷售大破五百萬張的專輯，締造出被Coldplay主唱Chris Martin讚揚為「Probably the greatest song ever written」、取樣自Rolling Stones〈The Last Time〉，卻比原曲更為管為流傳的〈Bitter Sweet Symphony〉、迷幻悲傷的〈The Drugs Don’t Work〉、〈Sonnet〉、爽朗暢快的〈Lucky Man〉、〈Urban Hymns〉…等多首膾炙人口的單曲，在2007年底，更榮獲Q雜誌評選為年度最佳專輯。然而正當樂團邁向事業巔峰，為專輯舉辦巡迴演唱的同時，吉他手Nick McCabe和主唱Richard Ashcroft之間的戰火再度爆發，進而導致樂團的第二次拆夥，1999年四月樂團宣告正式解散。這次擦槍走火讓The Verve分開長達十年之久。在樂團分道揚鑣的期間裡，Simon Tong 和貝斯手Simon Jones 一同組成The Shining樂團，主唱Richard Ashcroft也陸續發行了《Alone with Everybody》、《Human Conditions》、《Keys To The World》三張個人專輯。2007年六月，經過世事歷練的The Verve，結束所有的爭執紛擾，宣布重組，隨即在2007年底舉辦復出演唱會。這個令所有搖滾樂迷欣喜若狂的消息一出，演唱會所有門票，在短短20分鐘內，全部銷售一空。

距離上一張專輯，已經有十年時間，The Verve終於在2008推出第四張原創專輯《天韻神蹟Forth》，兩位樂團靈魂人物主唱Richard Ashcroft和吉他手Nick McCabe依舊扮演著尋找真理的探險家，藉由新作對於未知的生命，提出許多疑問！專輯開場曲〈Sit And Wonder〉，Richard Ashcroft徬徨的聲音表情，在忽明忽滅當中尋找救贖；在Glastonbury演唱會上造成大合唱的首支單曲〈Love Is Noise〉，歌曲的創作靈感，來自從小就有幻想神秘性格、出生於倫敦的英國詩人William Blake（1757-1827）的經典短詩「And did those feet in ancient time」。其實The Verve早在1995專輯《A Northern Soul》裡的單曲〈History〉當中，就曾引用過William Blake的詩句。這首充滿未來主義，宛如來自宇宙彼端的歌曲，絕對是十年之後的〈Bitter Sweet Symphony〉；〈Judas〉講述的是主唱Richard Ashcroft個人的真實故事，他在咖啡廳裡對於「Judas」這個名字，所做的一個小實驗；有著電鋼琴陪襯的〈I See Houses〉，散發著Richard Ashcroft濃濃的個人色彩，是一首對生命提出質疑的作品；〈Noise Epic〉、〈Numbness〉都不由自主地散發著The Verve早期作品的氣息，〈Noise Epic〉在長達八分鐘的時間裡，情緒隨著音符互飆，而〈Numbness〉則任由感官吞下迷幻藥，不受一切的侷限；緊接而來的〈Valium Skies〉卻是一顆鎮定劑，灰色的雲就像抑鬱的情緒，緊緊跟隨；〈Columbo〉是一場旅程，這線性化的劇情，是由吉他手Nick McCabe所精心指引；〈Appalachian Springs〉像是一個新生兒，呼吸漸漸急促、步伐慢慢奔馳，Richard Ashcroft滿溢的情感堅定自信，帶動著他的聲線，表現十分搶眼出色。

在The Verve缺席的這十年裡，我們的耳朵跟著一同沉睡！而在那個英倫搖滾、璀璨鮮活的90年代裡，最令人神往心醉頭號樂團，終於重組復出帶來最震撼的搖滾神蹟。
